I am David, founder of Amsterdam Cooking Workshops. I am of Dutch and Indonesian descent, and because I grew up in a family that loves food, I spent a lot of time in the kitchen watching my mother cook Indonesian dishes. Regular visits to the Indonesian part of my family have always revolved around food.
However, I started to enjoy cooking much later in my life. At one point during my college life, I got tired of waiting for my roommates to make eating plans. After a long wait we usually ordered fast food instead of cooking something ourselves. I decided to take matters into my own hands and started shopping and cooking dinner for me and my roommates. From that moment, about 12 years ago, I developed a passion for Indonesian, Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese cuisines. I really love the ingredients and flavors of these Asian cuisines and would love to teach you how to make the delicious dishes I cook every day at home.
I have also developed a talent for tasting flavor combinations. For example, when I taste a specific dish or spice mixture, I know exactly what kind of ingredient needs to be added to create the desired flavor balance (salty - sweet - bitter - sour - umami).
